Pilot Study
Purpose: To obtain feedback from all levels of players using Monster memory.
Case: 40 Subjects (players) ranging in ability from 2.0 beginners to 6.0 satellite level. The subjects had no prior knowledge of the product, or what the product should accomplish. The findings were the result of each player using the device only one time, the first time.
Protocol: Players spent 5 minutes warming up; Monster Memory was then placed on each player. They were given no information
of any sort, nor were they asked any questions about the product, comfort, etc. After only 10 minutes the players were instructed to unhook the device but keep it on. They were then asked what they noticed about the device and how it felt.
Findings:
With Monster Memory on and attached, 39 of the 40 subjects walked out to the baseline keeping their hands very close together, as if they were handcuffed. Each person was then asked why they "had their hands like that." A typical answer: "It just feels like what I am supposed to do."
When asked, "What feels different having the device attached, then unattached? The lower level players gave the same answer, usually word for word: "I felt restricted or limited while hitting the ball. Players at higher levels answered in the same uniform fashion, but leaning more on the positive side, saying that with the device attached they felt more compact and/or controlled, and that it gave them a pattern to follow each time.
I found it interesting that the lower level players answered consistently that the compact or controlled swing was not a good thing, but the higher level players viewed or felt the same thing, yet had a positive interpretation. The reason for the difference: as a novice, everyone wants to take a huge swing and pound the ball; if they can't, they feel there is a problem. On the other hand, the higher level player realizes just how important it is to be controlled.
Lastly, I felt it was important to ask each subject what they felt was the biggest factor that determined whether or not they bought the product? It was no surprise that the top two responses were: How much does it cost? 2. Does it work?
At Monster Memory we felt great about that because we have a product that is inexpensive, and at the same time gets results.
